Bahrain unveils FDI base in Singapore

Bahrain’s Economic and Development Board (EDB) has inaugurated its first Southeast Asia office in Singapore with the aim of promoting Bahrain as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) projects. The new office will play a key role in providing investors with market intelligence, guidance, and facilitating connections with relevant decision-makers.

Dalal Buhejji, Executive Director of Business Development for Financial Services at Bahrain EDB, expressed enthusiasm about establishing a presence in Singapore, highlighting the move as a significant step toward strengthening partnerships with Asian businesses. Bahrain aims to leverage its innovative investment climate and progressive regulatory framework to attract foreign investors.

As part of Bahrain’s efforts to diversify its economy away from oil and gas, the country is seeking to increase FDI. In 2022, Bahrain secured $1.95 billion in FDI inflows, up from $1.77 billion in 2021, according to the United Nations Conference of Trade and Development (UNCTAD). To further attract investors, Bahrain introduced the Golden Licence in April 2023, offering key benefits and streamlined services to impactful investment projects. To qualify for the Golden Licence, a project must exceed $50 million in investment value or demonstrate the creation of more than 500 jobs.
